On this day:
Pupils get MoneySense
Students from Tom Hood School, Leytonstone, are now spending smarter thanks to a project with NatWest Bank.Year 10 business studies students took part in NatWest’s MoneySense programme, which teaches such financial basics as how to open a bank account right through to how to manage money on a day-to-day basis and even how to run a business.
Working with a local branch, the students set up their own bank, providing real services to other pupils.
“The official opening was an exciting experience,”
said Fahmida.
“We were really successful on the day. Loads of people turned up and applied for a bank account.”
Business studies teacher, Mrs McIntosh, added:
“Financial education will help pupils manage their money and it also allows them to practise using a bank account for when they go to college, university or get their first job.”
